ECO Challenge 2025: Your Hall. Your Actions. Your Win.

Sustainability just got competitive at UTK!

Welcome to the first annual ECO Challenge presented by Facilities Services with the Office of Sustainability. This October, residence halls across campus will go head-to-head in the ECO Challenge 2025 – a month-long competition to see who can complete the most sustainable actions and lead the charge toward a greener campus.

What is the ECO Challenge?

The ECO Challenge empowers residents to take sustainability into their own hands. From October 1st – October 31st, students will choose from a variety of eco-friendly actions – like reducing energy usage, recycling properly, cutting back on single use plastics, or reducing fast fashion by shopping secondhand. Every action completed earns points for their residence hall’s team.

This isn’t just about checking boxes – it’s about building lasting habits and having fun while doing it. The more you do, the more points your hall earns – and the closer you get to victory.

What’s at Stake?

Aside from the pride of leading your hall to glory, the winning residence hall will receive an exclusive Sustainable Block Party! Get ready for:

  • Music
  • Free snacks
  • A pop-up from The Free Store (shop sustainably for free)
  • And, of course, ultimate bragging rights
