The Office of Sustainability and Office of Recycling are Officially Merged!

It’s official– the Office of Sustainability and UT Recycling have merged! Previously two different entities within UT’s Facilities Services, we have joined forces under one office to streamline sustainability and recycling efforts on campus.

Former Sustainability Manager, Preston Jacobsen, has moved into a new role as UT’s first full-time Energy Manager, focusing on lowering energy costs by incorporating new technologies, promoting renewable energy, and increasing awareness of renewables on campus.

Now under the leadership of former Recycling Manager turned Sustainability Manager, Jay Price, the Office of Sustainability is expanding with three new positions, including a Recycling Supervisor, and two AmeriCorps members in Alternative Fuels & Transportation and Program Development. Along with five other AmeriCorps members, two recycling drivers, and nearly 20 student workers, the Office of Sustainability is gearing up for a great debut with incoming and returning students this fall. Price explains, “As we move forward we hope to actively pursue ways to reduce energy and fuel consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, waste, and other negative impacts, and create opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to be a part of the solution.”

We are excited for the opportunities this merger creates for our office! Be on the look out for fun events, volunteering, employment opportunities, internships, and more by following the new and improved Office of Sustainability online @sustainableUT.”
